Wheel Of Misfortune

Jan Griffith

Eric Wilson, 40, of St. Helen, MI, lost a wheel while driving a truckload of picture frames from Romulus to Sault Saint Marie. The passenger side front wheel came off on Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Highway near West Branch, MI and continued about 10 feet down the road ahead of the truck before veering off into the woods.

Eric had this to say about the incident:

"Good thing I brought my muck boots, because that tire rolled through the woods and ended up in a swamp. What the hell! I just put my left boot on before I had my left pant leg on!"

As he stomped into the woods to retrieve the wheel, he noticed the brake drum was still attached to the rim.

"This is really heavy," Eric said. "I don't think we'll have to get a new brake drum though. That should save some money."

A representative from Round Robin Transportation, the company Mr. Wilson was driving for, had this to say:

"I hope the repair doesn't cost more than $2000, because that's all we have in our bank account right now. At least he found a deer skull on the side of the road where he broke down. We needed another one of those for the aquarium since I dropped the one I found in that hollowed out tree when I was 12."
